A group of Computershare employees are undertaking a difficult trek in southern Australia in November 2024 to help buy technology equipment for a new IT College in Nepal.

The 20 employees from Australia and New Zealand want to raise more than AU$75,000 for equipment for the IT College, which will be based on the grounds of the World Youth International (WYI) School near Kathmandu.

Computershare is funding the construction of the IT college using donations to the company’s workplace giving program Change A Life, to support educational opportunities in the region.

The trekking group’s fundraising efforts will help buy computers and multimedia equipment that will be important to the IT college's success.

The challenge

To help inspire donations, the group will spend five days in mid-November trekking through difficult terrain in the Grampians (Gariwerd) region in Victoria, Australia. They will cover 80km of the region’s most challenging trails, including a day carrying a weighted pack and completing strength exercises as they walk.

The new IT College: Providing long-term education solutions

World Youth International SchoolThe new IT College is under construction and is expected to start educating aspiring IT professionals in the first half of 2026. The new facility is being built on the grounds of the WYI School, which provides a high-quality education to more than 750 students from Year 1 to 12 in Nepal’s Gokarna region. The IT College will support technology career pathways in the region for its paying students and provide a sustainable funding stream for the WYI School.

Computershare has supported the WYI School since 2017 through its workplace giving program Change A Life, which aims to empower communities facing economic and social challenges across the world. More than 1,000 of Computershare's employees donate to Change A Life regularly through their pay, with every dollar from payroll donations matched by the company. Change A Life also supports a range of community-focused organisations close to our offices and an organisation that champions diversity (Year Up).
