The 2025 UK AGM season has seen steady evolution for issuers and investors
Amid a backdrop of economic and political complexity, issuers have embraced new technologies and prepared for regulatory reform. With more pre-submitted questions and continuous investor engagement, AGMs are no longer isolated events, but a touchpoint across year-round activity.
While overall meeting activity remained stable, contested remuneration policies rose significantly across all indices. Despite this, shareholder activism declined, though concerns over balancing sustainability goals with long-term value creation remained high on the agenda.
Dissent against remuneration policies have increased from 12.1% to 21.6% in the FTSE 100
Issuers have continued to prefer in-person meetings with a clear move towards digital enhancement. Compared to last year, twice as many issuers used technology to support AGMs. Using tools such as webinars shows that hybrid formats are being used to enhance meetings, rather than replace them.
