South African dividends rebounded strongly in Q1 2026, with total payouts of R143.2bn, up 75% year‑on‑year and among the strongest first quarters on record.​

Dividend distributions remained concentrated. The top five companies delivered 64% of payouts, while metals & mining, tobacco and banks together accounted for 77% of the total.
