ASDA – Highly Commended – Most Effective Communication (50,001+ employees)
The judges wanted to highly commend the Asda team for continuing to set a very high bar given their consistently high performance in communicating their scheme over many years. They are a class act and when it comes to taking every effort and channel to communicate to their diverse workforce, where Asda has trodden, others have followed.
RBS – Winner – Most Effective Communication (5,001 – 50,000 employees)
The judges recognised the strength and exceptional quality of RBS' entry. The company showed honesty in acknowledging their recent history and deserved credit for wishing to offer employees the opportunity to share in the share price recovery through the safety of their Sharesave scheme. The communications were designed with their end environmint in mind, rather than in a vacuum or bubble, which enabled posters to stand out in the sea of communications typical of the usual office or branch location. Same too for the email communications, again, designed to stand out in the inbox and be opened rather than skimmed over in a tide of e-communication that forms many office-based employees' daily working lives.
Rolls-Royce – Winner – Best International Share Plan
Some tough competition in this category but Rolls-Royce came out on top because of their commitment to translating all of their SAYE materials - including videoclips - into fifteen languages. The judges also cited the company's determination to offer SARs in jurisdictions where shares couldn't be offered directly, and the care and attention paid to explaining how they work. Their UK plan enjoyed 64% take up at the last launch and 33% take up was achieved internationally.
Rolls-Royce – Winner – Most Effective Communication (50,001+ employees)
Rolls-Royce richly deserves a second award, this time in the communication category. The judges cited the clean, clear and un-fussy presentation of their communication materials, and loved the chosen iconography. All of the design, layout, content and channel choices added up to crystal-clear communication and impressive take-up - especially given their substantial acquisition of 10,000 Power Systems employees largely based in Germany. The company achieved 64% take-up in the UK and 33% elsewhere globally.
