Our Apprenticeships offer real-world experience, helping you take your first steps into a professional services career

We offer real careers and long-term professional development and our apprenticeships in the UK are an opportunity for school leavers and people looking to upskill or change career to find a new career path. An Apprenticeship is a funded training programme completed within the business environment. It’s designed to equip individuals with the necessary skills and knowledge needed to start out in a new role.

Angelika Maly joined Computershare ten months ago (in 2022) as an Apprentice Service Desk Analyst. Her role supports our employees, helping them resolve technical issues.

Why did you choose to pursue an apprenticeship?

The tech industry has always interested me, and I realised I wanted a job in this field. With no experience, it made me start to look at apprenticeships where I could learn on the job.

How did Computershare support your apprenticeship journey?

My first month of employment we went through a program called The Academy. We were taught all the different aspects of the job and the applications needed in the role. We also got to shadow people on calls and chats and attended courses to help us develop our technical skills.

Computershare has been great with helping me throughout my time here, my manager being the most helpful. If we ever have any questions or are unsure of anything, he’s always more than happy to help and teach us how to approach the problem if it ever came up again. I also got a lot of help from the other apprentices; we always help each other out as we have different skill sets.

How has the apprenticeship changed your life and your career?

I've really enjoyed the past ten months of my apprenticeship and look forward to continuing my career in the Technology Services team. What I really love about this job is that I get to meet lots of new people and work with them daily and that no two days are the same, which makes the job more enjoyable.

"Having apprentices adds a fresh, youthful and engaging aspect to my team. They’re incredibly keen to learn and also bring knowledge learnt through off-site studies. Helping to drive young talent in technology whilst also promoting diversity is incredibly important to us."

Apprenticeships for our employees

Everyone at Computershare has the chance to grow and pursue career development and many of our leaders today started with us in junior positions. We support current employees looking to upskill or explore a career change by offering fully funded apprenticeship opportunities in the UK.

In March 2020, Teodora Lascu was working as a Project Support Analyst in our Plans department when her manager at the time suggested that a Data Analysis apprenticeship would be a brilliant career development opportunity.

Why did you choose to pursue an apprenticeship?

The uncertain prospects of being in lockdown for an undetermined period and looking for a direction in my career helped me make this decision. I had already dabbled with data visualisations in my previous role, which I had found quite interesting. At the same time, knowing I had the support of my team and manager was another important factor as I didn’t have to worry about finding the time to attend online classes, study for the apprenticeship and complete all the required assignments.

How did Computershare support your apprenticeship journey?

Throughout the apprenticeship, my team leader and manager were very supportive: they understood that some of my time had to be allocated to course work and attending classes; they participated in all the feedback sessions with tutors; and they had real input in suggesting what kind of real-life challenges could be solved through the apprenticeship programme. I was trusted to complete an array of tasks, to be involved in global projects, and lead some smaller projects, all which enabled me to learn valuable skills and evidence the criteria required to finish my apprenticeship with a distinction.

How has the apprenticeship changed your life and your career?

The apprenticeship has given me the chance to pursue the career path I wanted and do a job I truly enjoy and feel I can make a difference in. After almost three years since I started the apprenticeship, I can’t see myself doing anything else and I’m excited about the wealth of opportunities this path I have chosen may bring in the years to come. Being able to pursue a career path in this area has given me an enormous sense of accomplishment and satisfaction – and has also made me feel valued within the company. I’m really excited about my future here.

Our hiring managers recognise the benefits that apprentices bring to Computershare and support employees who want to explore different career paths or develop in their role.
